The gas price surge has no 'quick fix' - EU's Simson

European Union Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson (pictured) stated that the bloc cannot do anything to provide short-term fixes for rising gas prices across the union.

Simson said that the EU will encourage governments to offer targeted national support instead, which includes cutting energy taxes. Furthermore, she asserted that the reasons for high prices are not based in Europe but are on a global scale.
Lastly, Simson noted that EU proposals address more long-term solutions on bringing prices down, but she backtracked slightly from her remarks on sweeping reforms, which member states have blamed for further inflaming the crisis.
